Crimes, Secrets and Lies of the Terrorist Chief Mario Moretti. New edition https://amzn.to/3f9TxQU Who Commanded the Red Brigades ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mario Moretti (Porto San Giorgio, January 16, 1946) is an Italian terrorist and Red Brigades member, one of the members of the historical nucleus of the Red Brigades during the Years of Lead. Never dissociated and never repented. After being among the initial members of the CPM (Collettivo Politico Metropolitano), he joined the Red Brigades in 1971, immediately distinguishing himself for his organizational skills and determination and becoming a member of the organization's Executive Committee. Clandestine since 1972, after the arrest or death of the main militants of the so-called "historical nucleus", from 1976 he became the most experienced and important leader of the Red Brigades, contributing decisively to the increase in the operational efficiency of the terrorist group. A great organizer, Mario Moretti played a fundamental role in the constitution of the new Red Brigade columns in Genoa and Rome, in the improvement of logistical structures and equipment, in the establishment of relationships with foreign subversive groups, and was above all the main person responsible for the planning and execution of the kidnapping of Aldo Moro, leading the armed Red Brigade nucleus in the ambush in Via Fani and personally interrogating the kidnapped politician. In 1993 he declared that he was the material executor of the assassination. After the tragic end of the kidnapping, Moretti, together with the other members of the Executive Committee, tried to continue the armed struggle and made an effort to maintain the cohesion of the Red Brigades, despite the first internal disagreements and the growing opposition activity of the police. Arrested in Milan on 4 April 1981, after nine years of clandestinity, he was sentenced to six life sentences; in 1987 he publicly admitted the failure of the armed struggle, although he never dissociated himself or collaborated with the investigators; since 1997 he has been on semi-liberty and works in a rehabilitation centre for ex-prisoners called "Giorno dopo". In the evening he returns to the Opera prison.
