Verse by verse, it sends salutations to those who gave everything on the plains of Karbala: the severed arms of Abbas, the heart of Ali Akbar, the body of Qasim, and the tiny throat of Ali Asghar. It remembers the two young sons of the grieving Zainab, the hungry and thirsty children who waited from the 7th of Muharram, the tents burning on the night of Shaam-e-Ghareeban, and the tears flowing from the eyes of Hazrat Zainab (s.a). The closing lines will stay with you , the moment when the guardian of the camp, Qamar-e-Bani Hashim, has fallen in the battlefield, and Zainab is told that she is now the leader of the plundered caravan. Here is what each part means: The opening salutes Hussain as Shah-e-Karbala (King of Karbala) and as Jaan-e-Nabi, Jaan-e-Fatima , the very soul of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his daughter Fatima (s.a), showing how beloved he was to them. The next verses send Salaam to the wounds of Karbala one by one: the arms of Hazrat Abbas (cut while he tried to bring water), the heart of Ali Akbar, the body of Qasim, and the throat of the infant Ali Asghar, who was struck by an arrow while still a baby. The poem then remembers the two young sons of Bibi Zainab and the descendants of Imam Ali (Haidar) and Jafar-e-Tayyar, calling them moons and stars. It honors all who fell, and those who stayed hungry and thirsty from the 7th of Muharram, denied even water in the desert. It then turns to Shaam-e-Ghareeban , the desolate night after Ashura, when the tents were set ablaze, and Hazrat Zainab (s.a) wept. The final lines are the most heart-piercing. The poem closes by telling Zainab that she must now carry the weight herself: she has become the Kafila-Salaar, the leader of the plundered caravan, a reminder of her strength and sacrifice in the days that followed.
