Everybody Rob here at etrailer.com. And today we're to be taking a look at the CURT T-connector vehicle wiring harness on our 2016 Jeep Renegade. Now our CURT harness is going to provide us with a 4-pole flat trailer connector. That way we can get down the road safely with all the required lights, like our stoplights, our turn signals and our tail lights. Now the 4-pole connector is going to be one of the most common connectors that you'll find on trailers, and it is going to be usable and adaptable. If you need to upgrade up to a 5, 6, or even a 7-way. Now, the adapters are going to be sold separately. Now, our wiring is going to come with a dust cover. It's going to keep all the debris and dirt and moisture out of the connector itself. However, as you can see, our wiring actually is meant to stay in the inside of our Jeep until we're ready to use it.So whenever we do want to store it, we can simply open the hatch and we can keep it down here by our spare tire. And whenever we do want to use it, you saw, we just drape it out the back end, but we just want to make sure we stay away from the latch mechanism itself because the weatherstripping here has plenty of cushion to where it'll give enough, or it's not going to damage the wire whenever we do need to use it. A trailer wiring's not only good for just trailers. There's a lot of accessories, especially hitch mounted accessories, that use the light functions from a 4-pole connector. And having a trailer wiring connector to the back of your Jeep just makes it a lot easier to hook any of those accessories up. That way, we don't have to worry about hard wiring anything, we can simply plug in the accessory into the trailer connector. We don't have to worry about cutting or splicing. As far as the installation goes, it's pretty straightforward. We're simply going to tap into the taillight connector itself behind the tail lights and we'll have a T-connector on our harness, so it is fully inline with the lights and transfer all the signals to the connector. Now we are going to have a powered converter that's going to transfer all those signals and turn them into a working signal for our trailer. But again, it is powered. So we're going to have to run a power wire from the converter box up to the battery. I know some customers may be a little bit nervous about that, but again, it is really straightforward. It's definitely something you can do at home. And the hardest part really is getting the panels loose so we can get access to all the connectors we need. But now that we've seen what our wiring looks like and gone over some of the features, it's going to go to the installation process together, so you can have the competence to do it at home. To begin installation, we want to open up the rear hatch on our Renegade and you want to pull out the floor coverings or at least have them out of the way. And we're going to start by coming to the back of our threshold. Now on each corner, we're going to have this tie-down, want to open them up. And then the cover underneath you can take a flat blade screwdriver, trim panel tool. You're going to want to pop open that cover to expose the fastener that's holding it in place. Then we'll grab a T40 Torx bit and we're going to remove both of those tie-downs, one from each side. Now, on the inside of the threshold, right on the inside of the panel here, we're going to have three screws. One's going to be in the center. And then we're going to have one on each side. We need to pull all three of those out. So we'll grab a T25 Torx bit and remove all three of those screws. Now that we have all the fasteners removed from the threshold, we want to grab the very bottom of it. We may have to lift up the floor, covering, grab the very bottom and you're going to lift straight up. There's some clips that are going to be released along the way. Some of them may get stuck. That's okay. And you just go and get a trim panel tool, pop those out, and we can slide them back into the little slot there. Do you want to be careful when you're pulling these out because we don't want to break. We can go ahead and set our threshold panel aside where it won't get damaged. The threshold removed, we want to loosen up the panels on the side here so we can get access to the taillight wiring. Now we do have an access panel here, which is going to help out, so let's push on that tab, we can remove
