Revisit Teaching the World Photography: Andor Kraszna-Krausz (1904–1989), a lecture by Dr Michael Pritchard, photography historian, former director of the Royal Photographic Society and editor of British Photo History and The PhotoHistorian at the Liszt Institute London Born in Hungary and active across Germany and Britain, Andor Kraszna-Krausz was a pivotal figure in twentieth-century photography publishing. After moving to the UK in 1937, he founded Focal Press, which became the world’s leading publisher of photography books, shaping photographic education and visual culture worldwide. Drawing on new research commissioned for the fortieth anniversary of the Kraszna-Krausz Foundation, Dr Pritchard explores AKK’s life, work and lasting influence. The lecture highlights his role as a publisher, editor and cultural mediator, and reflects on the continuing significance of the Foundation and its Book Awards in supporting excellence in photography and the moving image.
