"She's been walking around with him, touching him, reaching out, doing all the 'mum things'," he said. "He's a great little calf - he's fit, he's healthy, he's strong." Mother and calf spent their first day away from the public eye in the elephant's barn. The zoo will give people the chance to vote on the calf's name. Mr Tanner said in a few weeks time the zoo will supply a list of words describing the newborn's personality to the Royal Thai Consul General, who will suggest a range of Thai names for zoo members to vote on.
