"With the exploitation of lot A now complete, the company is moving on to the exploitation phase of lot B. The devastating consequences observed during the first phase of exploitation have finally convinced the entire local population that renewing the contract would be tantamount to sacrificing current and future generations for the benefit of private interests." This association finds it incomprehensible to allow such environmental chaos to continue in the 21st century, a time when countries worldwide are intensifying their efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At a time when environmental challenges are at the forefront of everyone's concerns, green and ecological city projects have had no choice but to relocate because they cannot coexist with the pollution generated by the activities of Sénégal Mines. According to this association, the company is contributing to the prevalence of respiratory illnesses among the local population. At a time when efforts are being made to preserve marine life and ecosystems, the Mbodiène lagoon is dying from the effects of limestone sediments dumped by Sénégal Mines. While unemployment and poverty are rampant in the area, the factory, built on land formerly cultivated by the local people, employs only about sixty people. The association calls on the authorities to protect their well-being.
