Great Dutch Jazz Compilation from the 50's by Norma Japan
Norma Japan did a great job to find the lost tapes that Philips in Netherlands recorded some great Dutch jazz musicians in the mid 50's. Back in those days, not many jazz musicians were actively recording jazz so they released the recorded sessions in 10 inch LPs. Norma, in the early 90's, compiled those sessions in 4, 10 inch LPs, Jazz Behind the Dikes Vol.1 to 4. I got the complete 4 volumes for the 1st time and as I listened to them, I was just blown away by the recording quality and session quality. All of them sound superb and sessions are also just fantastic. Their style is really authentic, hard bop jazz that is soothing to your ears. Although most of the musicians here are very minor, they play just fantastic. This is another overlooked European jazz in the 50's you should dig.
