After recording the video, I recalculated, and my figures aren't quite right: I forgot that income tax isn't calculated on the full gross salary, but only after deducting flat-rate allowances and, most importantly, social security contributions. These are deducted before the tax is even calculated. Therefore, on a gross salary of €40,000, you effectively only pay 11–12% income tax, which is around €4,600 per year or just under €390 per month—not the higher figures from the video. But my main point remains: Even "only" just under €400 extra per month is a huge amount for many working and tax-paying Germans!
