Welcome to Day 185! Today, we read a chapter of extraordinary dramatic intensity and supernatural power from the New Testament: Matthew 14. This passage recounts the martyrdom of John the Baptist, followed by two resounding miracles that demonstrate the divinity of Jesus: the first multiplication of the loaves to feed five thousand men, and Christ's triumphant walk on the raging sea. On the seventh day, at the sound of trumpets (shofars) and with a great cry of faith, the city walls instantly collapsed. Rahab and her household were saved. A masterful lesson on the value of blind obedience, faith, and the cry of victory. Psalms 135–136: Two pinnacles of Israel's liturgical praise. Psalm 135 extols the Lord above all the mute idols of the nations. Psalm 136 is the famous "Great Hallel," where each verse seals a universal thanksgiving by echoing: "For his mercy endures forever!" Isaiah 66: The final chapter of the prophetic book of Isaiah. God reminds us that heaven is His throne and the earth His footstool, and that He looks upon those who suffer and tremble at His word. The book concludes with a vision of final judgment, but also of maternal comfort for Zion and the gathering of all nations to behold His glory. Matthew 14: Upon learning of the tragic death of John the Baptist, beheaded by Herod, Jesus withdrew to a deserted place. Moved with compassion for the crowd that had followed Him, He healed the sick and multiplied five loaves and two fish. Later that night, He walked on the lake in the midst of a storm to reach His terrified disciples.
