Skipped Nolan's Odyssey to watch the 1954 version instead | Ulysses Movie Review

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is everywhere right now — IMAX screens, hype trains, a budget that could fund a small space program. So I did the opposite. I downloaded the 1954 Italian Ulysses, an obscure peplum starring Kirk Douglas in a fake beard, with a cyclops made of rubber and uncredited cinematography by a young Mario Bava. Two hours of Homer's 20-year odyssey compressed into a greatest hits package. Italy's biggest hit of the 1954 to 1955 cinema season. Shot for $800,000. It is not Homer. It is not even close. But it might be the most fun two hours of adventure cinema you watch this year. #Ulysses #KirkDouglas #NolansOdyssey #MarioBava #VintageFilm
