Egg #2 Hatches In Cornell Hawks Nest | "L1" and "L2" Perk Up For Feeding – April 24, 2022

Two down, two to go! The Red-tailed Hawk family welcomed their second chick "L2" early this morning after 38 days in the egg. The chick was first spotted out of the shell just after midnight at 12:13 A.M on April 24. Watch the chicks rise and shine with a chipmunk breakfast courtesy of Big Red on the morning after hatch. We can already see how much more coordinated the eldest chick (L1) is during feedings. Red-tailed Hawk nestlings barely have enough strength to lift their heads right after hatching, but it doesn't take long for hatchlings to gain more control of their movements. L2 will be a much more efficient bobblehead during feedings in a day or two! Watch live at allaboutbirds.org/cornellhawks A Red-tailed Hawk pair has been nesting above Cornell University’s athletic fields since 2012. They make use of two different light towers for their nest sites. In 2012, 2015, and 2018–2021 they used a tower near Fernow Hall, and in 2013, 2014, and 2016, they used the tower nearest Weill Hall. We installed cameras at both of these sites to get a better look at the intimate behavior of these well-known birds as they raise their young amid the bustle of a busy campus. #birdcams #live #hawk #birds #wildlife #nature #nowplaying #newyork
