This is what real Guatemalan cooking looks like 🇬🇹
We signed up for a cooking class in San Pedro. We didn't expect it to be one of the most meaningful things we've done in a year on Lake Atitlán. 🌋🍽️ Anita runs a small cooking school here — but she's also built something much bigger: a community of local women, vendors, and families all connected through food. We spent the morning at the market with her, learned to make traditional Guatemalan dishes from scratch, and left completely changed. Inside this video: 🛒 A guided tour of the San Pedro market with Anita — the vendors, the produce, the prices 🧵 Doña Maria — an 82-year-old weaver with a story you won't forget 🥑 Real avocado prices in Guatemala (we react accordingly) 🌽 Tortillas from scratch — we help, we struggle, we learn 🍤 The full appetizer spread: guacamole, shrimp salad, tropical fruits 🌄 Cooking with a view of Lake Atitlán that made us question all our life choices ❤️ The single mothers' cooperative Anita supports — why it matters and how you can help 🏔️ The final meal, laid out family-style on the balcony overlooking the lake This isn't a recipe tutorial. It's a real cooking experience with a local Guatemalan chef — and it's the kind of thing that needs to be shared. 🐾 We're Chris, Grace & Mango — a couple from Ohio building a slower life on Lake Atitlán, Guatemala. New videos every week. ▶️ Watch next: We Stayed in Every Lake Atitlán Town | Here's What We Found • We Stayed in Every Lake Atitlán Town | Her... 📌 CHAPTERS: 0:00 - Intro: The Cooking Class That Changed Our Week 0:15 - Meeting Anita: Who She Is & What She's Built 1:20 - Market Day: Colors, Chaos & Incredible Produce 1:38 - The Coconut Banana Bread You Need to Know About 2:25 - Riding the Colectivo (This Is Our Version of Commuting) 3:00 - Panoramic View: Lake Atitlán From the Road 3:45 - Anita Breaks Down the Market: Who Sells What & Why 5:30 - Doña Maria: 82 Years Old & Still Weaving 7:20 - The Produce Section That Made Us Emotional 8:20 - Pumpkin Seeds 101 with Anita 9:10 - Avocado Prices in Guatemala (We React) 14:05 - The Kitchen Balcony View 🌋 17:00 - Making Tortillas From Scratch 22:00 - The Appetizer Spread (Guacamole + Shrimp Salad + Tropical Fruits) 25:00 - Sapote Fruit: Anita Makes Us Try It 28:00 - The Final Meal: Family Style on the Balcony 30:30 - Anita's Closing Words: Community, Women & Giving Back 32:00 - The Single Mothers' Cooperative & How to Support It 📸 Instagram: @theroamingrosses 🎵 TikTok: @theroamingrosses 📩 Collabs & inquiries: [email protected] Like what we're doing and want to support us?
