With the National Public Security Plan on the table, Cabildo Abierto distanced itself from the initial rejection, as was the case with the rest of the opposition. Before the Plan was made public, the party's leader, Guido Manini Ríos, met with Interior Minister Carlos Negro to receive it and later stated: “What's at stake is the safety of the people; we can't turn this into a political football.” Meanwhile, doubts persist about the present and future of Cabildo Abierto, which is currently one of the minority parties in Parliament.
