Cutting Back Liriope aka Monkey Grass in January

Cutting Back Liriope aka Monkey Grass Be sure and cut it back early enough in the year so that you don't cut the tips off or you'll have brown tips all year. Follow me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thecottagega... I am in Louisiana Zone 8b and today I am cutting back my Liriope also known as Monkey Grass, in January before it puts out new growth. You want to get rid of all the old growth so you'll have all fresh new green growth for the year. If you wait too late and cut off the tips of the new growth you'll have frayed tan edges at the tips of the new growth all year! I use a weed trimmer and cut across the tops then the sides. I'll pick up the trimmings to put on my compost pile. There are Hosta's in both of the beds right in front of our house so I'll leave them covered until the end of February. There are Skyrocket Floribunda Roses planted around the statue in the round bed.
