2026 BMW X6 XDrive40i: Driving Impressions | Car Conversations

Today we are driving the 2026 BMW X6 XDrive40i, the more stylish and sporty but slightly less practical version of the X5. The X6 starts at about $77,000, and this one has been optioned to $84,000. The XDrive40i comes with a 3.0L turbocharged 6 cylinder putting out 375 horsepower and 398 pound feet of torque. That is mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission, and gets about 24 MPG combined. There are also two other turbocharged V8 options available. The M60i puts out 523 horsepower and the M Competition makes 617 horsepower. While those are far more exciting, the standard engine does 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, which should be sufficient for most people. On the road, the X6 is a pleasure to drive with excellent ride quality and a very responsive feel. There is minimal wind noise entering the cabin, which is something BMW vehicles excel at. The X6 also offers many creature comforts on the inside, like seats that have heating, ventilation, optional massaging, and 20 ways of adjustment, beautiful materials, excellent tech, and a very luxurious feel overall.
