Broken Kamaka Putting the Body Back Together
In the previous episode, I repaired the soundboard, which had broken into three pieces, and recreated the missing edge purfling. Now it's time to tackle the rest of the instrument. In this video, I completely disassemble the body, remove excessive old glue from a previous repair, and prepare everything for reassembly. Along the way, I repair a damaged section of the side where the wood had become thin and chipped off, replace the original tentellones (the small support strips that reinforce the top and back), and carefully glue the body back together. This restoration has been a lesson in patience, precision, and respecting the craftsmanship of the original builder. Every repair brings this instrument one step closer to making music again. If you enjoy guitar and ukulele restoration, woodworking, or traditional lutherie techniques, I'd love to have you follow along.
