Wood Turning a Piece of Punky Pine into a Rustic Fruit Bowl

Turning a punky pine fruit bowl on the lathe, hand-turned from a fallen Florida pine. Punky wood is partially decayed and most turners avoid it, but the spalting, color, and grain it produces is unlike anything cleaner wood can give you. This piece had knots, soft spots, and bug holes that became part of the finished bowl rather than flaws to hide. Just me, the wood, and the lathe, working through the piece in real time and talking through what I see in the grain as it opens up. This is the dance with the medium, where the wood gets a say in what it becomes. Every piece is hand-turned from locally sourced, fallen or storm-damaged Florida wood, finished food safe, and no two alike. Based in FL.
