A Mountain Sky Village Enriched by Sericulture / Walk around the Mountain Village, Nanmokumura (Gunma Prefecture) Deep in the Kanto Mountains, Nanmokumura Village in Gunma Prefecture is dotted with mountain settlements, with houses clinging to steep slopes. This region once thrived on sericulture, and strong traces of the era when silk supported livelihoods remain. Many of the houses built on slopes overlooking the valleys feature the "dashigeta segai-zukuri" style, a style unique to Joshu. This is a rare region where the architectural style born from sericulture farming remains intact on a village-by-village basis. Located at the northeastern end of the "heavenly villages" that have formed along the Median Tectonic Line, the village offers a unique landscape woven together by mountainous topography and livelihoods. On this journey, we will walk through the quiet of late autumn in Nanmokumura Village, tracing the vestiges of life in this heavenly mountain village built on silk.
