The first record of the existence of a church dedicated to the holy virgin and martyr Agatha dates back to a will from 1328, preserved in the central archive of Mazzo (Italy). The former medieval oratory in the village of Tovo was extended in the 16th century to meet the needs of the faithful. The church was regularly officiated at and embellished with remarkable frescoes by Cipriano Valorsa, the Raphael of Valtellina, unfortunately covered over in later centuries. The Renaissance church was erected as a parish church in 1647 and was rebuilt in the early 18th century, quadrupling its size. d' flat - f' - g' - a' The bell tower, erected between 1696 and 1711, has four bells on two levels. On the upper floor are the three bells of the original concert, made by Pruneri in 1839 and 1865, with a recast by Ottolina in 1921 and weighing a total of 14 quintals. The huge window on the first floor was opened in 1979 on the occasion of the casting of the new 13-quintal bell made by Capanni for the church's 300th anniversary. The bells are in the scale of F major, to which is added the large bell in D flat. The bells are rung by the caretaker, who set them off to make the film. The building was built in ten years in the Baroque style, with a solemn façade and a tower that is very recognisable from all over the mountain. The entrance is marked by a main door, made of nailed sheet metal mounted on wood. The interior walls are covered with valuable frescoes, mostly painted between the 18th and 19th centuries. The most significant is the one on the counter façade, depicting the adoration of the Magi to the baby Jesus. The former high altar was located where there are now seats, carved by a local craftsman.
