[Race Introduction] This is the only JpnI race for two-year-olds and is a qualifying race for the "JAPAN ROAD TO THE KENTUCKY DERBY" series, which selects horses to compete in the Kentucky Derby in the United States. Past winners include Agnes World (1997), Agnes Digital (1999), and Utopia (2002) (all from JRA), all of whom later achieved international success, including winning major overseas races. Among the winning horses from regional circuits, Love Me Chan (Kasamatsu) in 2009 and Happy Sprint (Hokkaido) in 2013 were named NAR Grand Prix Horse of the Year despite being two-year-olds, after winning this JpnI race. (Osamu Saito) [History] This is the oldest graded race in the South Kanto region, and will be held for the 73rd time in 2022. It was established in 1950, shortly after the end of the war, as the All Japan Three-Year-Old Stakes. The first race was 1200m, from the second race in 1951 it was 1400m, from 1956 it was 1500m, and from 1959 it was 1600m, which it remains to this day. In 1988 the name was changed to the All Japan Three-Year-Old Stakes, and in 2001 it became the All Japan Two-Year-Old Stakes due to a change in age notation. From 1997 it was classified as a GII dirt graded race, and in 2002 it was upgraded to a GI. Since 2018 it has been held as an international race.
