Pipi-Kacka-Humor meets politisch inkorrekte Satire: POSTAL | Filmkritik & Analyse

Around 2007, Uwe Boll decided to adapt the video game Postal 2 into a film. A combination that is nothing short of brilliantly insane. Uwe Boll, the director with perhaps the most legendary reputation as a master of trash cinema and a specialist in polarizing films, encountered a video game that pushes the boundaries of good taste and uses its political incorrectness as a selling point. About Postal 2: The player's boundless freedom to attack civilians, the trivialization of drugs (you restore your health by smoking Dutch herbs), and the constant swearing made Postal 2 a nightmare in the early 2000s for all responsible parents who wanted to protect their children from evil and brutalizing video games. 0:00 Intro 0:44 What is Postal 2? 2:24 Who is Uwe Boll? 4:16 Jokes about 9/11? 5:40 Game & Film Comparison 7:58 Why this humor? 11:50 Little Germany Festival 13:40 Faded Action Scenes 17:42 Critics & Box Office 19:20 Conclusion and Rating Conclusion and Rating: Postal tries to do too much, and that's the downfall of this ambitious film adaptation of the video game Postal 2 (2003). As a slapstick comedy with boundary-pushing dark humor, Postal delivers on all fronts and more than does justice to the source material. However, director Uwe Boll peppers the film with political satire and subtext, which is jarring. One minute there are jokes about Nazis, the next it's toilet humor, and suddenly it's a political debate about how to deal with the victims of 9/11? Nah... forget it. And it's not that you can't joke about these topics. The point is that Postal doesn't quite pull it off tonally. But let's stick to the jokes and the humor: it's crude, disgusting, unsophisticated, tasteless, and often poorly executed leading up to the punchline. Nevertheless, it has enormous entertainment potential if you're receptive to this kind of pitch-black humor. From a production standpoint, Postal is high-quality, with lovingly crafted sets featuring details from the video game, and the protagonists are played by capable actors. The first half of Postal focuses on the Postal Dude, but in the second half, the film loses its focus and meanders too much on subplots, which ruins the pacing. For fans of the video game, the film is a must-see; for everyone else, it's more of a mediocre comedy with a touch of Uwe Boll charm. I give it 5.2 out of 10.
