Today, I'd like to discuss the topic of "ASD, or Autism Spectrum Disorder, where suicide is difficult to understand." It can be difficult to properly explain to and get people with autism spectrum disorder that suicide is a selfish act and that they should not commit suicide. When we try to stop someone from committing suicide, we usually try to hold them back by creating a connection. We try to dissuade them by telling them about their value in society, that we care about them, and that they are not alone through human connections. However, people with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) have a hard time understanding connection in the first place. We try to suppress their death instinct and pull them along by telling them that we're all friends and that we care about them, so please don't die, but because people with ASD don't understand this connection, it's difficult for them to understand our feelings. Parents, friends, and many other people try to stop their children from committing suicide, using all sorts of words, but in the end they often just turn a blind eye, saying, "Well, isn't this my problem?" or "It's my freedom, isn't it?" I'm sure there are many supporters and close friends who have experienced this dilemma, or felt this pain, and I think that even those affected are often confused when they're told, "Isn't suicide selfish?" I'd like to talk about this today. ■Why is suicide selfish? So, why is suicide selfish? First of all, why is it selfish? This is obvious to neurotypical people. Suicide is a selfish act to begin with. But there are people who are suffering, and there may be people who choose death because they are suffering. That's why people believe that even though it's selfish, they shouldn't be blamed. The reason is that every human being is a part of society, and as part of society, they have value and responsibilities. Whether we're working or not, old or young, we're part of society, we have connections to society, and there is responsibility and value in that. That's why suicide denies the very foundation of the social system. We tacitly understand that these people will be alive tomorrow. They won't die of their own accord. We are able to live our lives in society based on the assumption that no one will harm another. We have systems like the police, but they are basically there as a deterrent, and the existence of the police allows people to live their lives in peace. We operate on the assumption that people won't do anything about it. But suicide is an act that denies that very foundation. Suicide affects others. Of course, it affects the mental health of many people, leaving many people depressed, traumatized, and hurting. When you consider the impact on others, there is a selfish aspect to it. There's nothing you can do about it. That's the way it is. From one perspective, the idea that suicide is selfish is a given, axiomatic fact, for many people, especially older people and those who understand society. It's a self-evident fact that doesn't need to be stated. However, when I talk about this, I often hear comments like, "No, that's not true," "What do you mean, selfish?", and "You were the one who gave birth to them." I wonder why this is, and it's because people with developmental disorders, ASD, ASD-gray, borderline intelligence, and other intellectual challenges often have difficulty understanding empathy and connection with society. Or they may even lack it completely. People with certain personality disorders struggle to recognize their connection to society, that we all create it together. In those situations, they often don't understand these things at all. That's why they're easily dominated by their own emotions. They end up thinking, "I might understand your logic, but..." and feel like they're being forced to accept some strange logic. When they have the time, they're willing to follow logic and the rules of those around them, but when they're pushed to the limit, they often end up prioritizing their own emotions. It's easy to end up dying because you're in pain. If you say, "No, you're going to die because you're in pain," that's true, but we want to die because we're in pain, but we also have this and that, so we look at it from various angles, we're pulled in various directions and are able to hold on. But people with ASD or those tendencies, who have autistic aspects, can't see anything else and tend to think, "I'm going to die because I'm in...
