Suicide isn't something that happens because of one thing; rather, it's often a combination of various factors that lead people to choose suicide. We can't prevent this unless we improve all the elements. Something made up of these various elements is sometimes called a "system." We call it a "system." What is a system? Well, it's made up of multiple elements, and these elements influence and reinforce each other. That's why we say that misfortune begets misfortune, and that's because it's a system. One misfortune begets another, and they reinforce each other, and new misfortune is born. It's complicated, isn't it? It's complicated. I drew this diagram today because I wanted you to understand the system. So I thought I'd have you look at each element one by one. As for why transgender women are more likely to commit suicide, first of all, there is data that shows that of those diagnosed as transgender women, around 9.3% commit suicide within 10 years. I took this from an American textbook, UpToDate, and it's quite high, at just under 10% over 10 years. That's why it's such a serious problem. It's helpful to look at why this happens one by one. ■What Happens During Adolescence First, when puberty hits and secondary sexual characteristics begin to appear, children often become aware of discomfort with their gender. As children, they may feel that they prefer playing with girls rather than boys. Before puberty, the distinction between boys and girls is vague, so they tend to accept it. However, with the onset of puberty, boys and girls begin to play separately, and this separation becomes even stronger. As a result, they become more susceptible to exclusion. They may start to think that they are strange, odd, a monster, or something. This can lead to a heightened sense of loneliness. This loneliness can easily lead to depression. In reality, it's difficult to talk to family about it. Lack of understanding from family members can sometimes exacerbate this feeling of loneliness. Parents often try to encourage their children by telling them that it's all just their imagination, or that sexuality is very vague when you're young, so you just wonder whether you're a boy or a girl, and that there's no need to worry. However, they often end up hurting them and pushing them further into a corner. And then there's friendships. They start to feel uncomfortable in their friendships too. It's uncomfortable when a girl is in the boys' clubroom, right? So, even though they'd been friendly up until then, they start to feel uncomfortable, scared all the time, and it makes them feel uncomfortable. At the same time, romantic feelings tend to develop, because they're always there. They might fall in love with a classmate, but then they have to deal with anxiety and fear, worrying that they'll be rejected or that they'll think they're weird. But that doesn't mean they can spend time with girls, and girls don't like them either. Adolescent girls are very cautious, and not everyone is necessarily tolerant. And because they have no knowledge or experience, they tend to say mean things or run away. These things can lead to trauma later on. They can even intensify the trauma. And it's not just interpersonal relationships that cause confusion, there's also internal confusion. Who am I? Why am I like this? I'm different from other people, what does this mean? Adolescence is already a confusing time. Your brain suddenly gets bigger and smarter, and you're able to think about things you couldn't before. You become able to handle abstract things. As a result of being able to handle abstract concepts, you start to wonder what the other person is thinking. They might be friendly to you, but you can't help but wonder, what are they really thinking? What are they thinking behind your back? You start to wonder, doubt, and imagine things like that. As a result, you become confused. You also start to think about yourself, wondering what you're thinking, and who you really am. As you become more confused, you seek out someone who understands you. You search for someone who can teach you and guide you, but there are very few people who understand you. There are very few people who truly understand transgender issues, who understand the struggles of adolescence, who understand life, who understa...
