49 Metros En 1890: ¡El Vuelo Olvidado Que Humilló A Los Hermanos Wright!

Clément Ader (1841-1925), a self-taught engineer born in Muret, near Toulouse, achieved the first powered takeoff of a heavier-than-air machine on October 9, 1890, 13 years before the Wright brothers. He coined the word "airplane," created the theatrophone in 1881, anticipating stereophony by 50 years, designed the first V8 engine in 1903, and accurately described the modern aircraft carrier in his 1909 book, L'Aviation Militaire. His Avion III, financed by the French Ministry of War, failed its tests at Satory in October 1897, leaving Ader ruined and forgotten. The Avion III is now housed in the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris.
