Monasterio de Santa María de Rioseco

In today's video, we travel to the Manzanedo Valley, located in the Merindades region in the north of the province of Burgos, where we will visit the Monastery of Santa María de Rio Seco. The monastery we see today was built in 1236 and was inhabited by the Cistercian monks. During the 19th and 20th centuries, it suffered significant neglect and looting, even being placed on the red list of endangered heritage sites. Thanks to the restoration and conservation work carried out by the Salvemos Rioseco (Save Rioseco) association since 2010, the monastery is no longer on that list. The monastery can be visited 365 days a year, at any time, as the grounds are never closed to the public. During the summer months and Holy Week, guided tours are offered by volunteers from the association. These tours are completely free and highly recommended. To arrange a guided tour during the winter season, please send a request to [email protected], indicating the date, time, and number of visitors. You can also call 681 682 680. Volunteering: If you are interested in participating, please contact us by email at [email protected]. I hope you enjoy it, and see you in the next video.
