A talk about Dr. Ali Brivanlou’s research which focuses on embryonic stem cells and could offer valuable insight into human development. Dr. Ali Brivanlou attended the Lycee de France at Tehran and graduated in 1975. From there he attained his Masters degree in Biochemistry in France in 1982 and his PhD in Molecular Biology at UC Berkeley in 1990. In 1991 Ali began his Post graduate work in Developmental Biology at Harvard University. He was recruited to Rockefeller University as an Assistant Professor in 1994 and became the fastest promoted Faculty member in Rockefeller’s history; rising from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor to Full Professor with endowed chair in just 5 years. The usual time for this series of promotions is 12-16 years. Ali has received more than 20 National and International Medals and Awards. Amongst the most important of these is the Presidential Award; the highest honor bestowed on an American scientist. He is currently the Robert & Harriet Heilbrunn Professor and the Head of Laboratory of Stem Cell Biology and Molecular Emryology at the Rockefeller University.
