RESTOS DEL ANTIGUO TREN LIMA-ANCÓN: Rieles y el túnel en la Panam. Norte, 2012 (Dist. Puente Piedra)

SHARING KNOWLEDGE IN A WAY THAT'S FREE, OPEN, AND ACCESSIBLE TO ALL: When curiosity leads us to discover elements that many overlook, it allows us to find some pleasant surprises. One day, when we walked a few meters past the Tres Ruedas bus stop (in Puente Piedra), we noticed two railroad lines extending from the Pan-American Highway. This led us to inquire among the local residents about its origin. Through these inquiries, we learned that at one point it was one of the tracks or extensions of the old train that ran to Ancón. It also led us to a place, a few blocks ahead, where the tunnel through which the train once ran is half-hidden. Although this remains to be verified through academic studies, this information was received from the surrounding residents. We immediately set out to explore it and then share it with anyone interested in these elements of mid-20th-century Lima. We salute our friends who share our passion for discovering new places and curiosities, hoping to have contributed a little more to the understanding and appreciation of the spaces around us. LOCATION: Pan-American Highway North, near the SAUCE and TRES RUEDAS bus stops, in the Puente Piedra district. DATE: Tuesday, October 11, 2012. AUTHOR: MAYMA QUISPE, Néstor René.
