Ride the Ferrocarril Central Andino! Part 4: Through the highest railroad tunnel in the world!

The 4th and final part of our journey up the Ferrocarril Central Andino. This section picks up at the Casapalca switchbacks and covers some of the most scenic sections of the railroad as it passes through the desolate treeless landscape of the high Peruvian mountain country. We will pass through 7 tunnels perched high on a rock ledge before passing Lake Ticlio and then plunging into the 3/4 mile long Galera tunnel, the highest standard gauge railroad tunnel in the world and to Galera yard, the 2nd highest point on any railroad in the world at 15,681 ft surpassed only recently by the Chinese Railway line to Lhasa.
