3 Ways Native Thais Ask “How Much?” (That Textbooks Don’t Teach)

🇹🇭 Most Thai learners know that “How much?” in Thai is เท่าไหร่ (tâo-rài)… But did you know native speakers often ask the same question in different ways? Here are 3 common ways you’ll hear in everyday Thai: 1️⃣ เท่าไหร่ (tâo-rài) The most common way to ask “How much?” 2️⃣ กี่บาท (gìi bàat) Literally “how many Baht?” This is more casual and specific when you’re clearly asking about a price. 3️⃣ ขายยังไง (kǎai yang-ngai) Literally “How are you selling it?” Thais use this question when the pricing unit isn’t obvious. It’s often used for items sold by piece, stick, kilo, bunch, etc. (e.g., grilled pork skewers, desserts, fruit). Asking this prompts the seller to explain the pricing method clearly. Same meaning. Different nuance. 😉 #LearnThai #ThaiLanguage #SpeakThai #ThaiForBeginners #ThaiVocabulary #Thailand #thailessons
