With over 34,000 km of railway lines, France has the second largest railway network in Europe, after a unified Germany. In this documentary, we'll travel around the country, exploring its most significant lines. The route will be Calais, Rouen, Paris, Lyon, Valences, Grenoble, Briançon, Ventimiglia, Cannes, Nice, Toulouse, Bordeaux, and back to Calais. Our journey will also take us along beautiful lines, some of them steam-powered, which still retain the charm of bygone eras: This is the case with the Somme estuary line, the Chemin de Fer de la Provence, the Vivarais train, the Cébens steam train, the little Yellow Train, and the beautiful Chemin de Fer Froissy-Cappy-Dompierre line, whose tiny track, only 60 cm wide, was built to serve the trenches of the First World War. Grand steam engines, such as the 230 and 231, the innovative Turbotrain, beautiful railcars like the Billiard and the Picasso, all kinds of diesel and electric express trains, multiple units, and, of course, the TGV, will mark our beautiful, long, and relaxing journey.
