Oasis - Live in Den Bosch (27th November 1997)
Oasis Location: Den Bosch, Netherlands Venue: Brabanthallen Date: 27th November 1997 Source: Soundboard Recording Taking a brief break from Germany, Oasis play in Den Bosch in the Netherlands. This show is unsurprisingly, one of the most famous Be Here Now gigs. Captured on a crystal clear soundboard (even better quality than the much more popular GMEX gig) this gig has been pasted round bootleg circles for ages. Of course, being on a high quality sound source as the bad habits of this tour’s sound engineering are peeled back, so Bonehead and Guigsy are far more upfront and the keys take a backwards step. Of course this isn’t the only reason why this show is famous. 1997 is well known for it’s gargantuan vocals from Liam, but it’s obvious that since the beginning of the month his voice has been continuously going down a backwards spiral. Having performed pretty much two gigs then one night off for the last three months has taken a massive toll on his voice and he’s very much in the same situation as Frankfurt, but perhaps even worse. His voice cracks several times here on the high notes, and his throat is so tensed up that he has to give up the chorus on Some Might Say. Thank goodness that Don’t Go Away wasn’t played tonight as who knows what it would’ve sounded like. On the upside however, his voice seems to stabilise a bit more from Fade In-Out onwards, and those last three songs are a bit easier to listen to. The rest of the band are tight as usual though, and with Noel’s normal lead contributions, help lift the performance up a bit. I say a bit, as Noel also has a few sticky moments on the guitar. But he does counterbalance that especially on Live Forever. Noel says sorry for his vocals in Don’t Look Back in Anger, as he was apparently sick on this section of the tour. Thankfully for them, it’s only one more gig for the leg.
