PRATO vira base pra um arranjo super criativo com orquídeas Phalaenopsis e folhagens
A home kitchen has more gardening supplies than you might think. Those with a green eye can find fertilizer, planters, pots, stakes and even tricks for maintaining pruning tools. While having breakfast at their home in Holambra, our gardener Carol Costa and her friend Flávia Nunes, a landscaper at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, exchange homemade gardening tips that are useful even for professionals. Coffee grounds, eggshells and banana peels can be used to fertilize and provide nitrogen, calcium and potassium to plants. Cinnamon works as a natural fungicide and also helps orchids to produce more flowers. Cans and cups can be used to make cool vases and cute, delicate planters. Barbecue sticks and wire to close a package of sliced bread are useful for staking seedlings. And uncooked rice, who would have thought, is great for removing moisture from pruning shears. The conversation even leads to a bet: Flávia challenges Carol to create an arrangement with a wooden fruit bowl. Using mini Phalaenopsis (Phalaenopsis hybrid), mini-peacock maranta (Calathea makoyana), peperomia (Peperomia prostata) and mini-peperomia (Peperomia caperata), Carol wraps the roots with sphagnum moss and living moss. Finally, two spiders (hooks used to hang decorative plates on the wall) are used: one holds the plants to the fruit bowl and the other leaves the arrangement ready to go on the wall. Taking advantage of the fact that they are using the kitchen table as a counter, the friends also create a shelf for small gardening tools using a small wooden crate, glass jars and preserved moss. Created by STIHL Ferramentas in partnership with Jardim das Ideias, the 50 Dias de Verde series began on April 23 and will have a new episode from Monday to Saturday, in addition to a live broadcast on Sundays, until June 10.
