How And When To Prune Oakleaf Hydrangeas To Get Beautiful Blooms

It's officially Springtime! How can I prune my Oakleaf Hydrangea to get beautiful blooms? Can I prune in Spring? These are 2 important questions we all want to know. Today be going over on how and when to prune while I prune two of my favorite Oak-leaf Hydrangeas of 2 different sizes. I share pruning tips of what you can prune in spring and how to get more blooms. I also share reasons why I think they’re great for any garden. Each arching, 12" long panicle of large, pure white flowers that bloom all season, maturing to a rosy pink in late summer. This hydrangea attracts bees and butterflies. The foliage turns from bright green to autumnal red after the flowers fade, making Snowflake Hydrangea a true year–round plant. This shrub is low–maintenance, and even more low–maintenance after its first year in your garden. You'll love this in mass plantings or in an informal hedge. Sun Exposure:Full Sun, Partial Shade Height/Habit:4 - 6 feetSpread:4 - 6 feet Hardiness Zone:5-9 Flowering Date:Early to mid summer (June-July) Planting Instructions:Set at the same level it is at in the container, firm and water thoroughly. Winter Care:None except to mulch in northern zones the first winter if fall planted. Soil Requirement:Well drained, moisture retentive Watering Requirement:Water frequently during it's first year to establish a large root system. ‘Ruby Slipper’ Ruby Slippers hydrangea is special for several reasons, one of the best being that it is attractive all season long. After starting off as white, its large panicle flower clusters turn pale pink and then ruby red as the season progresses, which gave this cultivar its name. In the fall, its foliage turns mahogany red, and in the winter its exfoliating bark provides winter intereste. Great size for both container or in a small yard/area gardening.
