-----STATION INFO----- Leganés is a railway station located in the Spanish municipality of the same name, in the Community of Madrid. Historically, the station was a railway junction where the Madrid-Valencia De Alcántara and Campamento-Leganés lines bifurcated, the latter being exclusively military. Currently, the facilities are part of the C-5 line of Cercanías Madrid and offer various medium-distance services operated by Renfe. In the best case scenario, the journey between Leganés and Madrid-Atocha takes 18 minutes. It offers a connection to line 12 of the Madrid Metro via the Leganés Central station. The facilities are located at kilometer 13.2 of the Madrid-Valencia De Alcántara Iberian gauge railway line. This mileage corresponds to the classic route between Madrid and the Portuguese border via Talavera De La Reina and Cáceres. The section is double track and electrified. The station was inaugurated on June 20, 1876, with the opening to traffic of the Madrid-Torrijos section of the line that was intended to connect the Spanish capital with Malpartida de Plasencia, thus seeking a more direct link with the Portuguese border than the existing one via Badajoz.
