Centuries ago, the site formed part of a much larger estate that slowly lost its importance after major political upheavals. By the 18th century, what remained was a simple stone farm complex, practical in use and far removed from any former grandeur. Everything changed toward the end of the 19th century. A wealthy and eccentric liquor merchant acquired the property and saw more than a decaying farm. Driven by ambition, he transformed the site into a theatrical neo-Gothic château. Towers, pointed windows, decorative façades, hidden staircases, a monumental fireplace, and even a purely ornamental “castle gate” were added to create the illusion of an ancient aristocratic residence. Locals quickly realized this was not just a home, but a performance. The owner hosted extravagant gatherings, embraced medieval aesthetics, and played the role of château lord to perfection. For him, the building was a statement, not a necessity. After his death, the estate changed hands multiple times. Without the same dedication or financial means, maintenance was postponed, sections were closed off, and the château slowly began to decline. A brief attempt at revival in the early 2000s brought limited renovations and occasional use, but the cost of upkeep proved unsustainable. Today, the château is privately owned and partially abandoned. Some rooms remain maintained, while others are untouched time capsules, filled with dust and silence. Folklore still surrounds the property, with stories of a lingering presence in the tower and rumors of hidden cellars from its owner’s past.
