Kete Aronui: GIS Mapping to Support Kauri and Ngahere Health

This wānanga explores Kete Aronui, a GIS mapping system developed to support Tiakina Kauri (https://www.kauriprotection.co.nz/) and key kauri protection mahi in partnership with mana whenua and collaborating agencies. Kete Aronui enables iwi, councils, Department of Conservation (DOC) and forest groups to collect, manage, and visualise kauri-related data in a safe and secure way. This is a hands-on demo using test data to show how the system works in the ngahere, in the office, and across Aotearoa. What you will see ● Field data collection using ArcGIS mobile tools for kauri health mahi ● Data security using group membership and permissions ● Controlled visibility at ngahere partnership levels ● Web-based visualisation and analysis, including points, host population maps, imagery, and contextual layers like rivers, tracks, and contours ● A practical approach that supports kaitiakitanga while each group keeps control over its own data
