Kōrero ā-Mahere: 3D StoryMaps for Kaupapa Māori GIS Mapping

This Ngā Poutama Matawhenua online wānanga introduces practical ways to use Esri StoryMaps to turn maps, photos, data, kōrero, and local knowledge into digital stories. The session is designed for iwi, hapū, marae, Māori land trusts, kaitiaki, planners, researchers, GIS users, councils, agencies, and others working with Māori place-based data. No expert or technical knowledge is needed. The wānanga demonstrates how StoryMaps can support kaupapa such as 3D fly-throughs between places, incorporating whenua Māori land blocks, showing change over time across awa, moana, mahinga kai and whenua, and sharing taiao restoration, kaitiakitanga, planting, wetland recovery and monitoring mahi. Topics covered include StoryMap sidecars for guided 3D fly-throughs, swipe maps for before-and-after change, map tours for sites, paths and areas, photos, captions, credits and alt text, collections for connected StoryMaps, and new StoryMaps tools for presentations and social media posts.
