Serpentine Church, Central Otago
There are many tracks and trails to get to the historic Serpentine Church, located in the stunning Central Otago region. Over 1,000 m above sea level, the Serpentine church was the most elevated in New Zealand when it opened in 1873. Today it is the only remnant of a once-bustling village. Much of the town’s rich heritage is hidden beneath the tussock: tailings, water races and dams. It was our first outing with the Central Otago 4x4 Club and our first off-road journey in our 79 Series Landcruiser. It was time to get rid of that 'showroom shine' and put her through her paces.
