“Yesterday Once More”, composed by Richard Carpenter & John Bettie, sung by Karen Carpenter, is a hit song by the brother-sister duo The Carpenters from their ‘Now & Then’ album in 1973. Richard Carpenter mentioned in an interview that it was his favorite of all the songs that he had written. He has performed an instrumental version at various concerts. “Yesterday Once More" song is a nostalgic ballad about remembering the past through the emotional of old songs, reflecting on youthful days, highlighting how music acts as a "long-lost friend" that brings back cherished & bittersweet memories. For the Electone cover, this piece I chose from an advance The Carpenters songbook. The score is not difficult to play but it is the expressions and the controlling of the voicing used (oboe and harmonica) that make it challenging especially when played in 2-note chord harmony. It’s a good experience to learn playing songs like this... ballad genre has always been a little challenging for me to express, and play on 100% accuracy. Anyhow, hope you’ll enjoy listening & sing-along with the video. Karen Carpenter has a beautiful voice. While I was practicing this song, I found the drum patterns interesting hence I will be covering this song again, on the drum. My drum teacher is guiding me through the arrangement and playing. I will be uploading it once I have completed it. It is educational to play the same song on the drum since on the Electone drum is the only instrument the player is not playing.
