We Were SHOCKED - AQUARIUM Water in the CHATTAHOOCHEE River

For a moment, we thought we were in Montana. Instead, we were kayaking, paddle boarding, and fishing on the crystal-clear Chattahoochee River just below Lake Lanier’s Buford Dam. Thanks to Alan Jackson’s famous song “Way Down Yonder on the Chattahoochee” and Atlanta media coverage, many people picture the Chattahoochee as a muddy river. In this video, we show the truth: the beautiful 8.3-mile tailwater stretch from Buford Dam to McGinnis Ferry. The Red Kayak Guy team and I launched our kayaks and paddle board from the Lower Pool West parking area, also known as the Tailwater Boat Ramp, just below the dam. The water looked like glacier runoff, and we were stunned. Fishermen were everywhere, including some already walking up the ramp with their trout limit. Around us, trout swam through flowing river grass, making it feel like we were floating through an aquarium. Along with excellent rainbow and brown trout fishing, this section features iron-colored boulders, Rescue Rock’s Class 2 rapid, several swift shoals, and a few pebble beaches. Wildlife is abundant, with ospreys, eagles, hawks, cormorants, herons, kingfishers, geese, and mallards often overhead or along the banks. If you’re lucky, you may even spot deer or an occasional coyote. This stretch of river is amazing and appropriate for all levels of floaters. Remember to ALWAYS wear a life jacket and beware of pending water releases at Buford Dam. If you hear a siren, GET OUT OF THE WATER IMMEDIATELY.
