How to safely depart from the quay when space is tight or the wind is pushing against the pier? ⚓ In this episode, we demonstrate a departing maneuver using the bow line – simple, effective, and only possible with an outboard engine. What does it involve? 1. Leave only the bow line, fed in running gear. 2. Turn the engine toward the water and put it in reverse. 3. The yacht turns like a compass drawing an arc – the cleat on the pier acts as a needle, and your engine acts as a stylus. 4. The result? The yacht departs elegantly and safely from the quay – regardless of the wind.
