GEORGE POWELL - LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
George Powell started in skateboarding in 1957. Later, after graduating from Stanford University, he sought to create more efficient and lasting skateboards, integrating innovations such as concave and modern materials. His early designs (Quiksilver and Quick Tail) caught the attention of slalom and downhill skateboarders, and eventually Stacy Peralta. George's development of "Bones Wheels" provided for ever-increasing high-performance possibilities for skateboarders everywhere. Powell Peralta's impact on modern skateboarding is impossible to overstate. "Bones Brigade" skateboarders became icons in the 1980s. Vernon Courtlandt Johnson's artwork, became some of the most recognizable in skate history. Powell Peralta's ongoing commitment to quality-from Bones Bearings to Dragon Formula urethane-continue to set benchmarks in performance.
