Song of Solomon 7 — I Am My Beloved's And His Desire Is For Me | Worship Song

The celebration chapter — and the home of one of the most theologically staggering verses in the Bible. The bridegroom praises his bride as noble and captivating ("a king is held captive in the tresses"), and she answers with the chapter's great line: "I am my beloved's, and his desire is for me." That word — desire — appears only three times in the entire Old Testament. Twice it belongs to the curse: in Eden ("your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you") and in sin crouching at Cain's door. The third time is here, reversed — the husband's desire flowing toward the wife as gift. The Song quietly undoes the curse of Eden in the sphere of love. Read by the church as a picture of Christ's desire for his church: grace is not God reluctantly tolerating us — it is the Bridegroom wanting his bride.
