Qualitative Interviewing and Transcription: The Things We Wish We Knew Before We Started
The Community-Based Research Training Centre Presents: Qualitative Interviewing and Transcription: The Things We Wish We Knew Before We Started. This workshop occurred April 23rd. Please visit our website to learn more about the CBRTC: https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/cbrtc/ Event Description: It’s just a conversation, right? Wrong. An interview is SO much more… In this hands-on workshop, two experienced interviewers from city planning and sociology will highlight the practical skills that are needed to conduct and transcribe interviews, including an introduction to qualitative data analysis. Sarah and Jen will discuss all of the things that they wish they would have known before sitting down to interview members of different communities and share stories from interviews they have conducted to help you understand what to expect. They will also share tips for transcribing and analyzing interview data. In this session, you will also have the chance to try interviewing for yourself, analyze a bit of interview data, and hear what supervisors will be looking for from their assistants. This event was supported in part by funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council through the Manitoba Research Alliance. We have also received support from the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba Centre for Social Science Research and Policy. 00:00 - Welcome - Jeannie Kerr 01:52 - Housekeeping - Dagen Perrott 03:02 - Introduction - Sarah Cooper & Jennifer Dengate 07:30 - Conducting Interviews - Jennifer Dengate 31:16 - Transcribing Interviews - Sarah Cooper
