Küsten des Nordens (1/6): Von Lütje Hörn nach Hamburg | Dokuserie über Nord- und Ostsee

In the first episode, the journey takes us from Lütje Hörn near Borkum past the East Frisian Islands to Hamburg. The aerial photographs document the special features of the Wadden Sea and the harsh beauty of East Frisia. This region is inhabited by a stubborn breed of people. Kurt Knittel has been guiding us through the mud of the Wadden Sea for 20 years. Not far from here, in the small town of Norden, Anke Zimmer demonstrates an original East Frisian tea ceremony. Anyone who misses a ferry to the islands may have to wait up to six hours for the next high tide. The only alternative then is airplanes. Pilot Jan-Lüppen Brunzema supplies the islanders with everything they need in his Cessna – and brings Hollywood films to the island cinemas. Harald Nordmann is Blixen's dike shepherd and, with his sheep, makes an important contribution to the islands' safety. Opposite his pastures, the cranes in the port of Bremerhaven tower steeply. The port handles 50 million tons of goods annually, more than New York or Le Havre. With the impressive backdrop of the world's longest container terminal at five kilometers, the journey continues to the mouth of the Elbe and from there to the Port of Hamburg, Germany's gateway to the world.
