Fifteenth Episode of the "Phrases" Podcast; a jazz-infused program where improvisation takes place on a given theme. Each episode is guided by a thought-provoking phrase. What will happen once it takes on a life of its own? Nobody knows. This episode features a phrase from Donald Winnicott's book "Reality and Play." Almost as a confession, Winnicott offers a reflection tinged with pain: the self-reproach he levels regarding his position as an analyst in his early analyses. He reproaches himself for having acted impulsively, rushing into interpretation, driven by the anxiety he felt at having to "do" something intelligent. In this way, his actions have acted as an obstacle in many treatments. This conflict, or some variation of it, is something very common that analysts must navigate at some point in their practice.
