This Guitar Was Supposed to Be Firewood

This wood was headed for the fire. Instead, I turned it into the best guitar I've ever built. Full scratch build — reclaimed shed wood, black-pigmented epoxy, hand-carved neck, figured maple fretboard, and antique bronze hardware throughout. The body was cast in epoxy and milled flat on a router sled. The neck is hand-carved with a figured maple fretboard I pulled from the scrap pile and oak dowel fret markers I turned myself. The finish was aged with nothing but steel wool and vinegar — because it deserved to look like it had already lived a life. Every decision you see me make on camera is real. Including the bad ones. This is what guitar building looks like when you refuse to throw anything away. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00-00:22 - Intro 00:23-02:34 - Milling the Lumber 02:35-03:38 - The Glue-Ups 03:39-04:36 - Constructing the Neck 04:37-07:10 - Shaping the Body 07:11-08:14 - Shaping the Neck (Part 1) 08:14-10:16 - Routing the Neck Pocket 10:17-12:14 - Shaping the Neck (Part 2) 12:15-13:02 - The Metal Work 13:03-13:38 - A Handful of Random Details 13:39-15:18 - The Pickup/Control Cavities 15:39-16:23 - Grounds and Shielding 16:24-17:02 - The Nut 17:03-18:00 - The Electronics 18:01-19:52 - The Fretwork 19:53-20:08 - Stringing Her Up 20:09-21:20 - Clean Playthrough 21:21-22:20 - Dirty Playthrough 🎸 Skinner Guitars are hand built one at a time in a home shop in Dallas, TX — full builds, restorations, and Shop Talk.📺 Full builds on this channel →    / @skinnerguitars
