The Hardest Part of Cycling in Toronto

A Thursday afternoon 55K bike ride across Toronto ended up being a lot heavier—and a lot harder—than I expected. An unexpected stop at a ghost bike memorial for a fallen cyclist named Edouard had me reflecting upon life and my own journeys. Seeing those white bikes always hits hard, especially the kids' memorials I pass regularly. I ended up dedicating this ride to him, and that dedication became the anchor I needed when the road got tough (and boy did it ever get rough!) By the time I hit Morningside Park, my legs were gassed. With an hour still left to go on the main streets, low on fuel, and surviving entirely on a Mr. Big, I had to find my limit, hit it, and push through. It’s all part of the plan to hit a 120K ride by August. If you’ve ever hit the wall miles away from home, you know exactly what this felt like.
