Bronchiolitis occurs when the virus enters the body through respiration, inflames the bronchioles, and produces mucus that hinders the passage of air. Children under one year old are especially vulnerable. Transmission occurs through droplets expelled when sneezing or coughing in enclosed spaces. The main signs of the disease include wheezing, rapid breathing with visible strain on the ribs, extreme fatigue known as dyspnea, and high fever that can reach 40 degrees Celsius. In addition, children may have difficulty feeding due to shortness of breath. Treatment involves common measures against viral infections: adequate hydration with breast milk or appropriate infant formulas; inhalation with saline solution; and monitoring of body temperature. Monitoring of blood oxygen levels; eventual hospital use of corticosteroids and ventilatory support if necessary. Prevention is crucial to avoid serious complications. Frequent handwashing helps reduce viral risk, as does maintaining well-ventilated environments. Pregnant women should consider receiving a specific vaccine available free of charge through the SUS (Brazilian Public Health System) before delivery, ensuring initial immunological protection for newborns.
