Dominique Vérien : "J'espère qu'on va prendre les mesures pour croire les enfants"

Senator Dominique Vérien, a member of the Centrist Union party representing the Yonne region, chair of the delegation for women's rights, and a member of the Law Committee, was a guest on the morning show "Bonjour Chez Vous" to discuss the first report and initial findings of the investigation into judicial misconduct in the Lyhanna case. When comparing this report with her own first report from 2019 on sexual violence against minors, the senator noted some progress within the justice system but lamented that it had "not progressed sufficiently." Dominique Vérien elaborated: "Among other things, in training programs, in the way things are approached, whether in the judiciary, the police, or the gendarmerie, but not only there. In the national education system, but also in social services. I think there's a general awareness that really needs to be accelerated." While the Minister of Justice has requested the review of 70,000 complaints of sexual violence against minors, which have led to more than 1,200 arrests, the centrist senator is calling for a lasting change in how these cases are handled. She declares: “I hope this will be the last time we say it’s the last time; that there will truly be a before and an after.
